In appearance, the modding may seem simple and some will think that it is enough just to place the color display and done. In practice, the situation is more complicated.

The following tools are required: J.A.F. Box, hot air gun, soldering iron and some experience :)

For modding you will also need:

  • 6310 itself
  • Color display from 3510i
  • Flash memory K5U64418TM
  • Firmware from 8910i
  • White SMD LEDs

So let's start:

  1. Connect 6310 to J.A.F., read full PM and *.rpl from flash
  2. Unsolder flash memory from the phone and solder K5U64418TM
  3. Connect 6310 to J.A.F. again and do a full erase
  4. Load firmware from 8910i, PM and *.rpl from 6310 and finally load clear PM from 8910i
  5. Replace display from 3510i to 6310 frame
  6. Now the phone should turn on correctly and work in color mode

The 6310 has green LEDs, which is completely unsuitable for a color display. So here, too, you have to make a small mod. We can unsolder LEDs from, for example, 6310i and get a backlight similar to 3510i. Or in parallel, we can install brighter LEDs from 3100 at the backlight power points. I recommend the second option, because the brightness of the display gets better (as in the photos).

Now you need to slightly modify the phone charging system for correct work. It is necessary to solder in parallel the two terminals of the resistor assembly another 100KΩ SMD resistor, as shown in the photo:

That's all, now we have a fully functioning Nokia 6310 with a color display!
